I would say Thailand would be much better to live in long term rather than Vietnam having travelled both
I have been to da nang for months and i would love to live there but i can not stand all the honking. Thailand is for me much more relaxing because people only honk when its really neccesary…
Da Nang is unique because it’s a beach city that’s also a sprawling metropolis and rapidly growing. It would be good to compare it to Phuket or Pattaya with the pros and cons since only those places come close to size. In which case from a value perspective Da Nang comes out ahead. But Phuket has much better beaches all over the island, so it comes down to your budget ultimately if you can afford Phuket (which has become a lot more expensive) it’s better also since it’s far more developed and the Thai vibe beats Vietnam any day of the week.
Where did you rent the bike from in da nang?
We got bored with Da Nang about the third day, Hoi An was more exciting. Personally for a bit more, I prefer Bangkok much more.
Great cafe scene in Da Nang. Unfortunately no metro and public transport mostly sucks. Nice Long Beach but not the clearest water. Beware the quality of many hi-rises and apartment buildings is very poor compared to other Asian cities. Also the availability of western food and goods is very bad in Da Nang.
Let me fix your lead-in: everyone is NOT moving to Da Nang. I moved to Bangkok a couple of years ago and absolutely love it—zero plans to leave. Thailand overall, and Bangkok especially, are ridiculously affordable. Every day I’m still amazed at how little I spend on restaurants, massages, groceries, travel, sightseeing, and of course the nightlife. As for Da Nang? You’re 100% right: give it four days and you’ve basically done it all. Fun for a holiday, but I’d be climbing the walls with boredom if I lived there. I miss my weekly BKK skybar visits! And let’s be honest—the nightlife doesn’t even come close to Bangkok. (Unless I’ve been looking in all the wrong places… but trust me, I’ve looked!)
Da Nang is so beautiful, so modern compared to other cities.
