I Tried Hanoi’s SIZZLING Fish Dish… and It Was INSANE 🇻🇳 (Chả Cá Lã Vọng) ! My Favourite Now !!!

HANOI, VIETNAM – One of my favorite Vietnamese dishes of all time is Chả Cá Lã Vọng — a sizzling, herb-loaded turmeric fish dish that’s an absolute must-try when you’re in Hanoi!

This iconic dish was originally invented in the Old Quarter of Hanoi at a restaurant called Chả Cá Lã Vọng, and it’s become one of the most famous foods in Vietnam. It’s made with fish marinated in turmeric, galangal, and lemongrass, grilled, then brought to your table where it’s fried with loads of fresh dill and green onions — the aroma alone will blow your mind!

Served with bún (rice noodles), fresh herbs, roasted peanuts, and either fermented shrimp paste (mắm tôm) or Vietnamese fish sauce (nước mắm), it’s a bold, flavorful dish that combines crispy, juicy fish with aromatic herbs and punchy sauces.

On this trip, I visited Chả Cá Anh Vũ, one of the best-rated local spots in Hanoi to try this legendary dish. Even though I didn’t go to the original restaurant, this place serves some of the best Chả Cá in the city!
